This Grace

Song ten on The Calling of a Priest

This Grace.  (Ephesians 3).  I wrote This Grace on 23 Jan. 2006  in response to reading Ephesians 3, weaving in the life and calling of our family.  The purpose of Jesus' calling and His calling on us this: that we might know God (be reconciled to Him), the love of God, and the unsearchable riches of our Lord Jesus Christ.  It was His calling to make this available to us, and it is ours as well,  to first of all  know the unsearchable riches of Christ ourselves, and to share it with others.   And while there had already  been difficulties and griefs  along the way  when I wrote the song, and many changes and other difficulties and griefs since then, there have also been “tastes of heavenly things”,  friends gained, many joys and blessings.  Now, as then, I still would not trade this grace, this life He has given me for another one.  I wouldn't trade the friends I've made along the way and the experience I've had of knowing Him and His love in all the different places this road has lead me through, all this grace that He has given me.

This Grace Lyrics

Paul is a servant of this gospel

And, I guess, we are, too

Though less than the least of all God's people

We've been given this grace to share with you

The unsearchable riches of our Lord Jesus Christ

Who died to give us life

And we live it in the cold and the ice

Of this place where we were called to sacrifice

What we thought we wanted, to gain the things that never die

Winters are long, summers short and sweet

Giving us a taste of those heavenly things

And the friends we've gained are like feathers in wings

That lift us up so high

On Your breath of life

And I wouldn't trade it for anything

This Grace, This Life, that You've given me.

I don't know what You're doing through us

Sometimes we're so close that we cannot see

But I believe somehow You must be using

our joys our sorrows our sufferings

To show the unsearchable riches of our Lord Jesus Christ

Who died to give us life

And we live it in the cold and the ice

Of this place where we are called to sacrifice

What we thought we wanted, to gain the joys of life

Winters are long, summers short and sweet

Drink deep and taste of those heavenly things

And the friends we've gained are like feathers in wings

That lift us up so high

On Your breath of life…

And I wouldn't trade it for anything

This Grace, This Life, that You've given me.

And I kneel before the Father

From whom we get our name

And I pray that out of His riches

He will work in you His strength

To know together with all the saints

How wide and long and high and deep

Is the love, the love of Christ

And to know this love that's beyond knowing

That you may be filled to overflowing

With the fulness of our God who gives us life

And we live it in the cold and the ice

Of this place where we are called to sacrifice

What we thought we wanted, to gain the things that never die

Winters are long, summers short and sweet

Giving us a taste of those heavenly things

And the friends we've gained are like feathers in wings

That lift us up so high

On Your breath of life

And I wouldn't trade it for anything

This Grace, This Life, that You've given me.

And we live it in the cold and the ice

(And I kneel before the Father)

Of this place where we were called to sacrifice

(From whom we get our name)

What we thought we wanted, to gain the things that never die

(And I pray that out of His riches He will work in you His strength)

Winters are long, summers short and sweet

(To know together with all the saints)

Giving us a taste of those heavenly things

(How wide and long and high and deep)

And the friends we've gained are like feathers in wings

(is the love)

That lift us up so high

(the love of Christ)

On Your breath of life

And I wouldn't trade it for anything

This Grace, This Life, that You've given me

This Grace, This Life that You've given me

This Grace, This Life

that You've given me.
